We’re definitely going to see an electric bike from the Indian factory. We just don’t know when.
Electric bikes are coming, whether you like it or not – and the latest manufacturer to confirms it battery powered intentions is Royal Enfield.
In a recent interview CEO Vinod Dasari said: “Electric is something we have been thinking about for quite some time. We are trying to figure out exactly which segment is the right segment for us. Electric is something we take very seriously.”

Dasari went on to say that it’s no longer a question of ‘if’ there will be an electric Enfield making it to market – it’s all about ‘when’. And considering he also revealed there are various prototypes already built, maybe we won’t have to wait too much longer to see a production machine in the flesh.
At this stage, there’s no specific timeline and no technical information – but one thing we can fairly sure of is that’s whatever the Indian factory produce; it’s going to look another Royal Enfield. Chances are they’ll make use of an existing chassis – and ‘simply’ integrate an electric motor and battery pack.
Our bets are on a 2022 release date, but expect more information to become available over the coming months.
