BMW has filed patents for its first electric motorcycle.
Despite almost a decade of experience in electric two-wheelers with the likes of the CE 04 scooters, there has never been an electric motorcycle offering from BMW. However, the recently filed patent reveals that is to change.
The patent reveals that the electric Beemer would make use of some parts already seen in the CE 04 scooters.

High-performance models akin to the likes of Zero Motorcycles and Energica doesn’t seem to be BMW’s intention at this moment in time, so borrowing components from the CE 04 such as the battery pack and motor for an electric G310R makes sense.
However, this raises the question of how these components could be fit into the G310R frame, with reduced dimensions compared to the scooter.
BMW have made some tweaks to accommodate these components, such as the motor being rotated 90º and installed longitudinally, and the battery pack has been placed vertically at an angle under the front section of the bike.
We’ll keep you posted as we learn more.
