CUSTOM Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 tops 150mph at Bonneville

In the hands of 18-year-old Cayla Rivas, Royal Enfield’s new Continental GT 650 has been taken to 241kph (150mph) at Bonneville Salt Flats – exceeding the bikes previous best by over 30kph (18mph).

Royal Enfield has had a crack at demonstrating the potential of its new twin-cylinder 650cc engine – participating in the Bonneville Motorcycle Speed ​​Trials.

It’s by no means a standard machine though, and it’s been tweaked with the help of S & S Racing and Harris Performance. Although the specifics haven’t been revealed just yet, in the images you should be able to spot a new tubular chassis, a new swingarm and upgraded Öhlins suspension. With the standard bike kicking out 47bhp, it’s fairly evident that the engine has received some serious help to get it up to 150mph too – in fact, we’ve heard whispers that a little nitrous might have helped offer a boost of power.

Riding the custom Continental GT650 was Cayla Rivas – an 18-year-old girl with 12 speed records to her name already.  It’s in her blood though; she’s the daughter of four-time champion of the Pro Stock category in the NHRA (dragsters), Chris Rivas.
