Yep, it’s true – and that’s the latest news from the American bike builder, direct from the horse’s mouth.
H-D’s Senior Vice President of Global Demand, Sean Cummings gave away the electric plan whilst talking to the Milwaukee Business Journal last week.
While the news isn’t a complete surprise given that we’ve seen the prototype/concept LiveWire project from H-D for the past couple of years, it’s big news that the production version will be in the dealerships and ready to buy by the end of 2020-ish.
The announcement, made to such a small outlet rather than being shouted about on a global scale, is clear in as much that electric motorcycles are part of the future line-up. H-D’s core customers might not be overly thrilled at the news but this is something aimed more at new (read: younger) customers switching to motorbikes.
Project LiveWire (which was a coming together between H-D and Mission Motors) was an opinion-gathering exercise that was taken on a world-wide promotional tour to see if the public liked the idea enough to put hands in pockets – given what Cummings has said, we assume they did.
Would you buy one? Would an electric H-D be enough of an H-D for you, if you were in the H-D market?
