Kawasaki updates Versys 1000. THREE models to choose from.

Kawasaki has just confirmed it’s updating its Versys 1000 range for 2022 with the addition of a new entry-level and new SE model to sit either side of the current S.

The Japanese factory hasn’t exactly gone to town, there’s only some very minor changes to the bulk of the bike – instead it’s focusing on extending and expanding the range of options for potential Versys customers.

The flagship model in Kawasaki’s adventure-tourer line-up looks much the same as before and will be powered by the current 999cc engine, which kicks out 118bhp of power and 75ft.Ib of torque – so you might be asking what all the fuss is about…?

The big news is that there’s been a bit of a reshuffle in the range, with the introduction of two new levels of trim – giving Versys fans three distinct models to choose from if they’re after a new bike in 2022.

There’s a new top of the range SE version, which gets electronically damped Showa Skyhook suspension and other electronic rider aids. It starts at £14999 and goes all the way up to £16699 for the SE Grand Tourer which gets some beefy panniers and a better pillion setup.

The existing S model now sits in the middle of the range, having been replaced by an entry-level ‘Standard’ model which does without a few bits a pieces. There’s no electric rider aids, rider modes and the TFT dash instruments – while a larger windscreen, heated grips and hand protection are only available as additional extras. It’s helped shave a few quid off the price of the S though – down from £13099 (for the S) to a very competitive £10399 for the base model Versys. Not bad at all.

Due to be available this coming January – there’s a good chance budget-conscious bikers who don’t need all the latest swanky technology could well be tempted to splash out on the bomb basic adventurer from Japan.
