MotoGP: British and Australian Grand Prix CANCELLED

MotoGP organisers have confirmed that there’s going to be no top level racing at Silverstone and Phillip Island during the 2020 season.

As a result of the ongoing coronavirus outbreak and the numerous calendar changes, it has been announced that the British and Australian Grand Prix have been cancelled for 2020.

The British Grand Prix was set to take place at Silverstone across August 28-29, while the Australian Grand Prix at Phillip Island was set to take place from October 23-25 of October – but as a result of the coronavirus outbreak, there’s going to be no world championship action at either circuit this year.

Speaking about the news, Carmelo Ezpeleta, CEO of Dorna Sports said: “We’re saddened to have to announce the cancellation of these iconic events after finding no way through the logistical and operational issues resulting from the pandemic and rearranged calendar. Silverstone and Phillip Island are always two of the most thrilling race weekends of the season, with both tracks never failing in their promise to deliver some of the closest racing in our Championship. On behalf of Dorna, I would like to once again extend my thanks to the fans for their understanding and patience as we wait for the situation to improve. We look forward to returning to Silverstone and Phillip Island next year for more incredible battles.”

At this stage, the plan is to get the MotoGP season in Jerez with a double header round over the weekends of July 19 and 26. Time will tell if that comes to fruition or not.
