Reigning World Champion will be discharged from hospital in the next 36 hours to begin recovery

With his most successful premier class season to date finished, and the recent MotoGP tests behind him, eight-time World Champion Marc Marquez has had surgery on his right shoulder at the Hospital Universitari Dexeus-Quiron in Barcelona.

The operation went ahead yesterday, November 27 ans was carried out by Dr. Xavier Mir, Dr. Victor Marlet and Dr. Teresa Marlet, both part of ICATME (the Catalan Institute of Traumatology and Sports Medicine).

Marquez is being released from hospital within the next 36 hours.

After experiencing some discomfort with his right shoulder following his massive 26G crash in Thailand back at the start of October, and after his Monday crash at the Jerez test, Marquez chose to have the operation as what his team described as: ‘a preventative measure after medical consultation’.

The operation is similar to the one performed on his left shoulder at the end of 2018 but apparently is: ‘less aggressive in nature’.

Marquez will be discharged from hospital within the next 36 hours and will then begin his recovery and winter training at home in Cervera, Spain in preparation for the Sepang Test on February 7, 2020.
