There’s going to be some major changes in the VR46 corner of the MotoGP paddock over the winter, with Valentino Rossi saying that he knows what’s needed from the Yamaha factory in order to get the Italian back up to the front of the races again.
Speaking after the final round of the 2019 MotoGP championship, Rossi was very candid about what he thought – not on about the Valenica GP round – but also about the worry of where the Yamaha needs to improve.
He said: “That was a difficult race for me. Like in other times this season, we have had rear grip problems.

“When the tyre starts to slip then I can’t maintain lap times, I can feel that there is a problem with the rear tyre and I have to slow down because of it.
“Unfortunately this has happened too many times during the season and we were unable to resolve this. In the last race of the year I had to pay close attention because of the tyre and also because the cold weather made the track conditions more complicated.”

“Now it’s over. The season was really tough because, beyond some good races I struggled. From Tuesday (tomorrow) we will start working to become competitive again in 2020. There are four days of testing, in Valencia and Jerez, where we will have to understand what direction to take.

“Many things will change in my garage, starting with the mechanic and in addition to that there will be news about the engine and chassis.
“A thought about the season just ended? I am not happy.
“I made some good results but I also suffered too many times. Yamaha must not make the mistake of hiding behind the excellent results of Quartararo. We know the areas to work on and this must guide the work to be done.”
