This is a 250. How good does this look? Let’s go find a chippy, a roundabout and a windy B road and do skids, wheelies and go flat out, eh?

Wow. Wow, eh? How stunning is this? What ‘this’ is, is the all-new Aprilia GPR250 a quarter-litre bike that’s been shown in China and looks drop-dead gorgeous.

Powered by a 249.2cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled ending the beauty has a six-speed box and kicks out 25bhp @ 9,000rpm and 16lbft of torque @ 7,500rpm. The engine has a compression ratio of 11.3:1. That might not get your boat floating in particular but when you factor in that this motorcycle has a kerb weight of just 150kg, the spec sheet looks a lot more inviting.

There’s a 300mm disc up front with a radial J.Juan caliper taking care of the gripping bit, another J.Juan caliper is at the rear. The stoppers get dual channel ABS.

The petrol tank is pretty small (just 14 litres). Tyre-wise the bike gets a 100/80-R17 front and a 130/70 – R17 rear.

Length is 1,950mm, it’s 770mm in width and 1,100mm in height.

No price was available at the China show, but you can bet that this bike is already being lined up to go on sale in Asia and possibly Europe (Euro 5 notwithstanding – hey it might be Euro 5, we don’t know) for 2020.

Ok, so in terms of power and weight this Aprilia 250 is a long way from the 167kg and 64bhp fun of the original RS250 two-stroke, but it’s pretty sweet for the new generation of quarter-litre funbikes as it is.
