Rumours are swirling that Triumph’s been quietly working on a new 1160cc Speed Triple – and it sounds like we might get to see it in flesh at the big bike shows later in the year, in time for a 2020 release.
There’s no doubt Triumph’s hugely successful naked sportbike is due an update. The Speed Triple’s chassis has remained much the same since 2011 – and with new, stricter Euro 5 emissions regulations about to come into play, now is as good a time as any for the British factory to update its engine from 1050cc to 1160cc.
At this stage, there’s been no official news from Triumph – and we’ve not managed to get our hands on any spy shots or leaked documents just yet – so it’s difficult to know what’s on the way. But there’s every chance the new 2020 model will get a new chassis, updated electronics, and maybe even a bit of a makeover. We’re expecting to see at least a couple of different versions of the Speed Triple – much like the current generation Speed Triple S and RS. And we can’t wait.
