Max Biaggi acquitted of tax evasion charges

The six-time world champion finally has some good news after his father passed away last week.

Max Biaggi will not face charges over alleged tax evasion that amounted to nearly 18 million euros and could have meant that the Italian would have been sent to prison for a year.

A hearing in the Court of Rome has found that there are no charges for Biaggi to answer. Last March, 250GP and WSB world champion was accused of false residency in Monaco and was told that, if found guilty, he would have to pay out tax on income that should have been paid in Italy. This totaled a staggering 17.8 million euros.

The charges related back to 2012 and prosecutor Giuseppe Olivo also requested that Biaggi be sent down for a year if his guilt was proved.

Now, a few days after the death of Max’s father, Pietro, the Court of Rome has said that there is no case to hear – the decision being taken by Judge Bruno Costantini after going through evidence presented by the defense legal team.

During the case, Biaggi always claimed his innocence. He repeatedly stated that he had, indeed, lived in Monaco full-time, saying: “I have been living in the Principality of Monaco for at least 20 years. Mine was a lifestyle choice.

“There my children live with their mother, there are my bikes, there are my friends, my restaurant and my gym.

“I only go to Rome when it is needed and when it is necessary. I don’t have any property there – not even a motorhome.”
