Travel prospects in Devon have taken a giant leap forward – on two wheels.  That’s because a new business initiative is set to transform the opportunities for people to travel to and from potential employment, thanks to a new initiative launched by Holsworthy based firm Devon Moto.

Sam-ManicomThe project, ‘Devon Wheels 2 Work,’ have now relocated from Halwill Junction and offer a cost effective and hugely convenient solution to the cost and hassle of getting to work.  Wheels 2 Work Chief Executive Max Jowett explains:  ‘if you’re looking for work and haven’t got the money or desire to shackle yourself to a car, then Wheels 2 Work is the perfect solution.  We provide motorcycle and scooter loans to enable you to get to places of employment, education or training.  It’s a liberator –because it frees people to find work as and where they want, rather than depending on a bus timetable or how far they can walk.  As our Chairman, Ian Robertson, says: if you’ve got the will to work, we’ve got the wheels.  That sums it up perfectly. ’

Stage-Pic-MainFormer MP Lembit Öpik is now Director of Comms & Public Affairs for the Motorcycle Action Group (MAG).  He admits to making a ‘massive detour’ to Holsworthy to celebrate the launch of this new scheme.  ‘I can honestly say I’ve travelled from London to Leeds via Devon!  I just had to come and underline the importance of this tremendous project for the region.  It really does open up job prospects in a way that nothing else can.  Devon Wheels 2 Work will do more for work chances than many Government schemes.  MAG is 100% behind Max and his team.  For their client, it’s a game changer, and that’s worth adding 500 mile to my weekend for many times over!’

Paula Williams-Coles, who runs the sales & marketing aspects of the operation is delighted with the take up.  ‘Even this morning, we had a customer who wandered into our launch, and rode out on a scooter.  His enthusiasm was obvious, and our excitement is based on what we can do for the area.   It’s a not-for-profit plan, and that means everything we make at Devon Moto we put back into the project.   This really is a win-win for our clients, and our community.’

Devon Moto also provide new and used motorcycles, clothing, accessories and bikes, all makes and models.  Working with Dave Walley, the local General Manager, they expect to make a great success of the programme.  ‘We’ve had a strong start,’ adds Dave.  ‘It means so much to us that we can make a difference like this.  I’ve never been more confident about the future.  Devon really has got new wheels for work, and we’re proud to provide them.’
