Mugen has just unveiled an updated version of its E.Rex electric off-roader at the 2019 Tokyo Motorcycle Show.
First unveiled in prototype form back in 2017, Mugen has unveiled an updated version of its E.Rex dirt bike alongside its new 2019 Shinden Isle of Man TT racer. And it’s particularly interesting, as Honda has just unveiled its own electric CR prototype.
Of course, Mugen and Honda are very closely linked – and if you look at the two bikes side by side, you can see more than a few similarities. The main differences between the Mugen and Honda are styling related. While the Honda takes inspiration from its CRF lineup, the Mugen takes design cues from its Shinden electric superbike.

Admittedly, Mugen’s not given much away about its new E.Rex at this stage – but it seems to share a chassis as with the previous model. However, its electric drivetrain looks totally different from the outgoing model (and is almost identical to the one on the Honda CR prototpe).
At this stage, that’s about as much as we know. There are no official tech specs out there, and we still don’t know what’s going to come of the new Mugen (or the Honda for that matter) – but both machines do look like they’re near production ready, so fingers crossed we’ll see production models in the not too distant future.
