A pair of Costa Rican motorcycle racers have been handed two-year suspensions following an on-track clash – and subsequent mid-race scrap.

Taking place during a round of Costa Rica’s national motorbike championship back in February = Jorge Martinez and Marion Calvo were jockeying for position – before Martinez lost control and grabbed onto the back of Calvo’s bike.

Calvo eventually stopped – but Martinez was furious when he climbed off, resulting in an exchange of blows as other riders raced past. The race was then red-flagged and the two scrappy riders were thrown out.
The case was subsequently taken up by the Latin American Motorcycle Association, which dished out hefty punishment in the form of a two year ban each.
