Last weekend Valentino Rossi’s annual 100km dirt-track race, ‘100km of the Champions’, was held at the VR46 Motor Ranch. And it was Rossi and his protégé, Franco Morbidelli, who came out top after a hard fought race against Moto2 stars Mattia Pasini and Lorenzo Baldassarri.
Created in 2011 just outside Tavullia – the hilltop town where Rossi grew up – the VR46 Motor Ranch contains a 2.5km dirt course that includes 13 corners: lefts, rights, uphill, downhill, all graded and manicured to provide just the right amount of grip: not too much and not too little.

The 100-kilometre race has been the main event at the ranch since 2014. In theory, it’s a bit of postseason fun for Rossi’s friends and young apprentices from the VR46 Riders Academy, but as you’d expect – the racing gets pretty intense. And here are a couple of videos of the two days of action.
