Honda reveals NEW Enduro and Supermoto CRF450XR for 2019. Which one does it for you?

Built from the bones of Honda’s race-ready CRF450RX – Honda has joined forces with Italian race specialists RedMoto to unveil a new CRF450XR in both Enduro and Supermoto form.

To a certain generation of riders, Honda’s hugely successful single cylinder four-stroke XR was THE go to dual-sport machine. And it seems that Honda has finally decided to reintroduce the XR in to its line-up – updating its race-ready CRF450RX Enduro machine with a range of top quality aftermarket bits and pieces, and all the necessary bits and pieces to make it road legal.

Using the CRF450RX as a base, Honda has made a handful of key changes including a bigger fuel tank, lights, mirrors, a horn, a licence plate holder and a Termignoni exhaust system. And if you’re really serious about your off-road riding, you can add an off-road kit which comes with a slimline licence plate, small LED indicators and folding mirrors.

Engineers at Honda and RedMoto have worked on the 449cc CRF450 engine to make it even more usable. In essence, they’ve increased the mass of the crankshaft to improve torque and traction, revised the power delivery to offer a smoother and wider range of power – and even changed the gearbox from five to six speed to give the bike more legs out on the open road. And Honda has managed to increase the distance between (major) service intervals to 30,000km – though it still needs an oil and filter change every 1,000km.

Suspension comes in the form of fully adjustable 49mm USD Showa forks up front, and a fully adjustable Showa mono-shock with Pro-Link at the rear. For braking, there’s a 260mm wavy-style disc with two piston calipers up front, and a 240mm wavy-style disc with a single piston caliper at the rear.

At this stage, that’s about as much as we know. No news yet on pricing or availability – but we’re hoping it’ll be making it to market in the not too distant future.
