One of Steve McQueen’s own personal helmets, a Bell 500 – stickered up with his film companies’ logo and his name – is going under the hammer at the Bonhams Barber Motorsports Museum auction this October.
The helmet that’s up for sale is a Bell 500 lid, with a characteristic snap-on peak and double-D ring chin strap. Iconic in its own right, they’ve been used by both motorcyclists and racing drivers for decades. This particular helmet was owned by McQueen, before being given to Husqvarna importer Edison Dye.
