“Having outgrown our old location at Halwill Junction, Devon Wheels 2 Work has just moved to outstanding new premises in the former ATS building at the entrance to Holsworthy Industrial Estate. We continue to offer our scooter and motorcycle loan scheme, and our new, larger workshop provides servicing, MOT and repair for all makes and models of motorcycles.
We are also pleased to launch the brand new ‘Devon Moto’ showroom, which is fully stocked with helmets, motorcycle clothing and accessories from top brands such as Nitro, MT, Armr, Falco, Oxford Products, Lampa, Traveldri-plus, Muc Off, Putoline Oils and HJC.”
Max Jowett, Chief Exec said “Devon is leading the way in the sustainable development of Wheels 2 Work in the UK and this move marks the start of an exciting future for our business. We are creating an accessible motorcycle destination and are keen to welcome bikers from across Devon and beyond. Come along on the 26th April and find a whole range of bargains to set you up for the new season, enter the raffle and you could win a number of amazing prizes”
Devon Wheels 2 Work is widely recognised as a national example of good practice for both Wheels 2 Work Schemes and Social Enterprises. Any profits made from the Devon Moto showroom will be used to support the scooter and motorcycle loan scheme, ensuring that it provides an affordable way for people to access employment, education and training.
The Official Opening of the new premises will take place on Saturday 26th April 2014 from 10am to 6pm at Unit 1 Neet Way, Dobles Lane Industrial Estate, Holsworthy, Devon, EX22 6ES.
Devon Wheels 2 Work is a social enterprise that provides scooter and motorcycle loans to individuals across the whole of Devon, allowing them to access work, education and training.
Devon Wheels 2 Work receives some funding from Devon County Council to subsidise the scooter and motorcycle rental scheme, but also generates an income from a motorcycle workshop and from sales of clothing, helmets, accessories and other items. Any surplus from these activities is reinvested in the Wheels 2 Work Scheme.
In April 2013, Devon Wheels 2 Work was awarded the contract to deliver a Wheels 2 Work scheme in East Sussex as a result of over 12 years of experience and an excellent track record for delivery and sustainable business development.
Devon Wheels 2 Work started in 2001 with just 10 scooters. We now have a fleet of 142 Yamaha mopeds, scooters and motorcycles available for rental on the Wheels 2 Work scheme. Customers sign up to a six-month contract, which means that a 50cc moped costs £25 per week to hire, and a 125cc scooter or motorcycle costs £38 per week. This cost includes full use of the machine, fully comprehensive insurance, road tax, a six-weekly safety check, servicing and the use of a protective jacket.
There are around 30 Wheels 2 Work Schemes in England. Devon Wheels 2 Work is one of only a few that operates as an independent business, the majority are hosted by Local Authorities, Charities or Community Councils.
