Suzuki has filed designs for a new LED light system that projects a beam of light onto the ceiling of a tunnel, to help riders be better seen. It’s a strange concept – but it fits in with what else we’ve seen from Suzuki this year, and will most likely form part of a comprehensive light system that works to alert other road users of your presence.
Right across the motorcycle industry, manufacturers are trying to find new and innovative ways to help you be better seen (and safer, as a result) when you’re out on two wheels. A few months ago, we revealed Suzuki’s secret plans for live light projection – and now we’ve been sent a second set of patents, which pushes the projection technology even further, in a slightly unexpected way.

Essentially, the second system will be installed on the rear of a motorcycle (or scooter) with a built-in sensor that will recognise that the vehicle is in a tunnel – and then it will project a beam of light onto the ceiling or sidewall of a tunnel. Simple. But strange. We’d probably end up worrying about what’s going on with the light above us – glancing up trying to catch a glimpse of the funky light.
HERE’S THE FIRST LIGHT PROJECTION PATENT, FROM WAY BACK IN FEBRURARY.
