MotoGP: Dani Pedrosa to announce retirement at Catalunya GP this Thursday (rumour)

We brought you this story last week but given all the TT news that was happening around it, figured a few of you might have missed it. In case you did, here’s the hot-trot rumour going around MotoGP paddock right now…

There’s been no official confirmation or denial so far from Dani Pedrosa or any of his team but according to leading motorsport publication Speedweek, the decision is done and the 32-year-old will go public about his future by this time next week.

If the rumours turn out to be true then it’ll mean that Pedrosa will compete in his 296th and final GP on November 18th in Valencia. In recent weeks there has been a lot of talk about Pedrosa possibly going to Suzuki to continue his racing there but that sounds like it’s a non-starter. Honda announced a split with Pedrosa earlier this week and the rider will be replaced by multiple-world champion Jorge Lorenzo for 2019 and 2020 alongside Marc Marquez.

The three time World Champion and 54-time GP winner with 205 starts in the MotoGP class Pedrosa, according to Speedweek’s sources, will announce his retirement from racing on Thursday, June 14  at the Catalunya circuit which is near his home town of Sabadell.

Pedrosa is expected to announce that he is staying with Honda, the factory he’s been with with 18 years across three classes of GP racing, as talent scout and ambassador.
