TT: Hutchinson makes his comeback! Smashed-up superbike star wins in first race on Honda TT bike

Ian Hutchinson has been given a start number for this year’s Isle of Man TT races – and the smashed-up superstar proved that the decision to let hims race by TT bosses was the right one by romping to a fantastic win at Mallory Park at the weekend, bagging two wins at Mallory Park.

The amazing comeback from the crash at last year’s Isle of Man TT races happened at the early-season meeting just days after Hutchy had the frame removed from his leg!

With two wins, both in the Allcomers championship plus a runner-up finish in the Mallory Trophy race, the results comes at a fantastic time for Hutchinson.

The North West 200 road race gets underway in a week’s time and there’s just under three weeks until the TT fortnight kicks off. He is due to take part in both road events.

The 16-time TT winner was in serious doubt for this year’s outings because of his recovery and fitness levels following his horrific crash in last year’s Senior TT which left him with a re-broken left leg and resulted in his left ankle being removed. The concerns over his fitness were so strong that Honda has even been testing with a fill-in rider – believed to be Steve Mercer – getting up to speed on the Fireblade during a private test as an option should the number one rider in the team with Lee Johnston be ruled out of action – but now Hutchinson has proved his pace on the Honda race bike.

He’ll start at the TT in fourth spot, immediately behind Michael Rutter on the Bathams BMW and in front of Dean Harrison on the Silicone Engineering Kawasaki.
