Over the last month – we’ve brought you a range of news about the future of electric motorcycles – and we’ve even had confirmation that Harley Davidson is committing to renewable technologies. The latest manufacturer to join the party is Yamaha – with its all new TY-E electric trials bike – and it looks awesome…
The TY-E is the product of what Yamaha calls its “Revolving R&D Program”, which allows its employees to work outside conventional frameworks and devote up to 5 percent of their working hours towards developing innovative new concepts. As such, the TY-E is loaded with cool bits, like a mechanical clutch to help control the electric motor in tight riding situations; a carbon composite monocoque frame; and a brand new high-output electric motor with a new battery pack and lightweight components. And, as a result, the TY-E weighs less than 70kg – unreal!
Plus, Yamaha revealed its TY-E electric trials machine will compete in the 2018 FIM Trial-E Cup, at the French and Belgian rounds later in the year. We can’t wait to see it in action…
