Legendary racer Giacomo Agostini has revealed that he reckons Marc Márquez is capable of winning the MotoGP championship again and again, eventually knocking him off the title top spot.
Agostini currently holds the record for the highest number of Grand Prix victories (123 in total) and the highest number of world titles (he’s won 15). Looking more specifically at the premier class, which used 500cc machines until 2001 and MotoGP ever since – Agostini still sits at the top of the pile with eight titles. Valentino Rossi sits just behind him with seven titles, and he’s been after his eighth for years now.

Agostini himself recently stated that he does not know if Rossi will reach him, but that he does see Marquez beating his record. Marquez already has four MotoGP titles from: 2013, 2014, 2016 and 2017 – and Rossi is fast approaching the age of 40, but Marquez is yet to make it to 25.
Agostini said: “Yes, I think Marc can match or exceed my record of titles, he is young and very fast. He will have many chances to win another four, or more, titles in MotoGP. Why does he win, how is he superior to his rivals? I could not say, and surely he could not say it either, and if they ask me why I won so many times I could not say it either… it’s something you have, that you are born with it, a gift from God.”
