Nicky Hayden’s family has just launched the Nicky Hayden Memorial Fund – a foundation that hopes to raise funds and help the neediest children in the Owensboro community, Hayden’s hometown.
The Nicky Hayden Memorial Fund’s site reads that the 2006 MotoGP World Champion “loved where he came from. He loved to give back. He loved children. The fund is being set up in order to help local children in the community he loved so much.”

The family of the 2006 MotoGP World Champion announced the project during Nicky’s funeral – which was broadcast live on Facebook, allowing family, friends and fans to celebrate the life of the Kentucky Kid from afar.
The pilot’s family and friends toured the streets of Owensboro along with all those attending the Kentucky Kid homage before giving him the last emotional farewell to the crowded cathedral of Saint Stephen.
During the ceremony, the parish priest said: “Nicky was a hero, a champion of the world, but he was also a son, brother, uncle and a friend. There are so many adjectives to describe it, but above all it was a gift that we shared the whole world. We should all be proud to have met him. He taught me the importance of forgiving and being forgiven. ”
