The original series ran on British screens from 1977 to 1983 and focused on the Kawasaki-mounted adventures of two Californian motorcycle policeman; Jon Baker and Frank ‘Ponch’ Poncherello.
It was excellent. And made a Saturday tea time joyous as big motorcycles were used to chase bad guys at speed somewhere sunny.
Well, as you’ve probably already seen via the trailer we’ve posted above, there’s a full-blown movie coming out based on that original story arc.
Given a modern update the film still has the central characters and is more of a 21 Jump Street/Starsky and Hutch type update on a popular TV series from a few years ago.
Larry Wilcox (Baker) and Erik Estrada (Ponch) might have had the lead roles in the original series (pictured above) but it’s now Dax Shepard and Michael Pena taking over the cotton uniforms and bike crashing duties.
The film has a UK release date of Friday, August 11.
