As we told you over a year ago, the Japanese firm has fired a load of development cash into the quarter-litre sector for 2017 and the first new bike is the smaller GSX-R. And it looks great.
The twin DOHC, 4-valve motor makes 24.7bhp @ 8,000rpm and belches out 17.21lb-ft @ 6,500rpm. It has 53.5 x 55.2 bore and stroke with a compression of 11.5:1.
Wheelbase is 1430mm and it tips the scales at 178kg wet. Seat height is 790mm.
Up front the bike is stopped by a two-piston caliper on a 290mm single disc, there’s a single-pot grabber on the back mated to a 240mm disc. Front tyre is 110/80 – 17, rear is 140/70-17.
There’s no news directly from Suzuki about whether this bike will make it to Europe (yet) but we’ve been told by factory insiders that this bike WILL be on sale over here as part of the 2017 line-up although it is scheduled to appear later on next year.
