The Lincolnshire star of the SPEED with series on Channel Four has seen his odds cut back a couple of times and in the last 24 hours they’ve dropped even further from 8/1 to 6/1.

Guy is being tipped as the solution to the Chris Evans problem. Evans announced yesterday that he was resigning from the Top Gear programme after the first series, following the departure of Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May. All eyes are now on who will join the cast of the motoring show alongside former FRIENDS star Matt LeBlanc.

LeBlanc. He’s staying at Top Gear and Guy could be alongside him.

Guy was tipped as part of the re-vamped line up before the last series began but MoreBikes broke the story that the former TT racer had decided to not pursue it at the end of last year because he: ‘Had other things I want to do.’ Now Guy is joint-favourite to take the spot sharing the 6/1 odds with TV chef James Martin and former F1 world champion Jenson Button.

The current Top Gear series came to an end last Sunday and has seen it’s viewing figures drop by more than two-thirds and criticism of Evan’s hosting style ramping up to epidemic proportions.

“The market is wide open at the moment and of course there may not be a replacement but at the moment Guy Martin, James Martin and Jenson Button are the front runners,” said William Hill spokesman Joe Crilly.

Next Top Gear presenter: 6/1 Guy Martin; 6/1 James Martin; 6/1 Jenson Button; 8/1 Dermot O’Leary; 8/1 Philip Glenister; 8/1 Rebecca Jackson; 10/1 Jodie Kidd; 14/1 Steve Coogan; 14/1 Suzi Perry; 25/1 David Coulthard; 25/1 Eddie Irvine; 25/1 Jake Humphrey; 25/1 Jay Kay; 25/1 Jay Leno; 25/1 Jimmy Carr; 25/1 Johnny Vaughan; 25/1 Ken Block; 25/1 Paul di Resta; 33/1 Martin Brundle; 33/1 Rowan Atkinson; 50/1 Ant & Dec; 50/1 James Blunt; 50/1 Matthew Perry; 50/1 Nigel Mansell; 100/1 Nigel Farage

What do you think? Is Guy the man who’d make you tune in to Top Gear again? Would he be able to bring a load of motorcycles to mainstream BBC2 evening telly?
