What We Wear: Icon ‘Hypersport’ Short Gloves

I wanted some short gloves for Summer, that were supple, comfy, stylish, offered decent protection and wouldn’t break the bank. The lovely folks at Distributor PartsEurope suggested The Hypersport Short Motorcycle Gloves from American company Icon Motosports.

As you can see from the photos, the attention to detail on these motorcycle gloves is exceptional, especially for the £70 price point. The top of the gloves is synthetic leather – ‘AX Laredo’, which, according to the manufacturer, is built with advanced poly microfibres that match the durability and performance of natural leather, providing excellent abrasion resistance, dexterity, and moisture management.

The palm of the gloves is goatskin, overlayed with diamond stitching in key wear areas. Icon claims that the gloves have heat-retaining properties for chillier days and perforated ventilation panels which help keep hands cool and sweat-free on warm days. I have to say, they have performed well on colder days, much better than I’d typically expect from unlined motorcycle gloves.

One feature I particularly like is the floating knuckle. A great idea as it gives a tremendous amount of flexibility, looks very different and comes with D30 Underlay (D30 = exceptional impact-protection stuff as seen on Dragon’s Den – give it a Google). There’s hard-knuckle protection, too. Also, more protection on the fingers, thumb and palm – designed to withstand ‘high-velocity asphalt encounters’. All-in-all, the Icon Hypersport Short Motorcycle Gloves have a feeling of distinct robustness.

These gloves will no doubt exceed your expectations as they have mine, representing superb value for £70!
