The first season was a success, evident in the rhythms picked up and the winning recipe: two young Italian talents, Luca Marini and Marco Bezzecchi, an energetic working group and worldwide fan engagement as highlighted in the short film released on the squad’s social media platforms.
An impressive debut season in MotoGP™ saw 231 points achieved, along with a podium, pole position earning Luca Marini the title of Rookie of the Year. Further top 10 placements throughout the year and a solid finish set him up for an even greater 2023. Led by Team Owner Valentino Rossi, Team Director Alessio Salucci and Team Manager Pablo Nieto, they have created a close-knit team, made stronger by Ducati’s World Champion motorcycles and their ‘Made in Italy’ signature. Now in his third year, Marini has had an impressive preseason and is ready to set ambitious goals for this season alongside Marco Bezzecchi who is aiming for the best possible result as soon as the first race in Portugal on March 26th.
The Mooney VR46 Racing Team is hoping for a truly remarkable 2023 season with a new sprint race and weekend formula, in addition to a striking graphic layout created by the VR46 graphics department. This look reflects continuity from the past, but also features a sleek black edition for extraordinary occasions. The fluorescent yellow of the team blends effortlessly with Mooney’s ocher yellow for an attractive juxtaposition of rock-inspired aesthetics. As the team lines up on the starting grid, the aim is to bring values of excellence, innovation, talent and Italian spirit to racetracks all over the globe.
Valentino Rossi, Team Owner: “I expect a great 2023 from the Mooney VR46 Racing Team. Last year we made our debut in MotoGP after so many years in Moto3 and Moto2 and it was a fantastic season. We were fast, even though the Team was a new one. The guys did a great job, fighting for the podium and the front positions on several occasions. This continues to be our goal also for 2023. We have two very fast and more experienced riders, I hope they can make another step forward to get their first victory and conquer as many podiums as possible. Luca is in his third season in MotoGP and I expect a lot from him. He has made great steps forward in 2022, he has grown a lot and has come close to the podium several times: he deserved it. In the testing sessions he was very fast and he is competitive. Marco can do well too, in his rookie year in MotoGP, which is difficult for everyone, he was very good. He hit the podium in Assen and did many races with the fastest guys till the end. He has to continue like this and can improve to be even faster in his second year in the top class”.
We shall watch with interest!
