Video: Intelligent Cranium helmet run through… is this the ultimate helmet near-future?

Intelligent Cranium Helmets is an American company that’s developing a prototype helmet for what looks like being the daddy of this sort of thing.

With more functionality than any other smart helmet seen so far, the iC-R features twin full-color heads-up displays, twin rear-facing cameras, a LiDAR rear collision alert system that warns you when a vehicle behind gets too close, an electronically tinting visor, built-in Bluetooth, phone connectivity, and a solar panel to help power all this equipment.

Yep, a solar panel sited on top of the shell that keeps the helmet charged every time you go out.

ICH says that this helmet can get approved by the likes of DOT, Snell etc. A projected price for the helmet when it eventually goes on sale is for something around the £1200 mark.

A spokesman for the company said: “The companies we’ve partnered with began development in January. We’re currently in discussions with a software company that has the capabilities to develop the main software for the iC-R helmet, our planned companion app, and much more.”
