This is what the soft Michelin rear race tyre looked like after an horrific 180mph crash during MotoGP testing in Sepang.
The crash happened during the first of a three-day test at the end of the start/finish straight and since this picture was taken Michelin has removed the soft compound tyre from the rest of the test.
Remarkably, Baz was relatively unscathed in the fall – the 23-year old tweeted afterwards: “What do you say when you walk away of a “290kmh crash” with a bruised elbow and nothing else? BIG THANKS YOU TO Alpinestars.”
Michelin’s track operations manager Piero Taramasso said: “We have taken the soft compound of the rear tyre, so the A compound is out of the allocation. This is just a precaution. For the remaining one and a half days we will only have the harder compound B.”
The second days outing was pretty good day for Ducati’s Danilo Petrucci though – he finished up quickest nearly and 6/100ths quicker than Jorge Lorenzo.
