Hot news from Japan this morning comes from the excellent Young Machine magazine – and it says that all of the major Japanese bike builders are gearing up for a full-on war in the supersporty, mini-superbikey 250cc road class.
Spread over the next two years the class is going to get proper high-spec mini missiles. We’ve already seen the first shot in the small-bike battle with the awesome CBR250RR which was shown in ‘concept’ form at the Tokyo Motor Show in October.
Despite Honda being at pains to promote the quarter-litre machine as a mere ‘concept’ there’s been a lot of rumours that the 250RR is in fact a ready-to-go road going bike and will be part of the firm’s 2017 line-up. Honda did show the bike in finished form with cool LED lights, trick suspension and a revvy four-stroke motor that redlines at 14,000rpm.
Now Young Machine says that added to the mix will be the GSX-R250 that we told you about months ago and a superport-level YZF-R25R and Ninja 250. These models will be considerably different to any 250cc motorcycle currently available because these bikes will be kitted with razor-sharp engines, highly refined chassis and some rider-aids tech.
