Arai launches new top-end helmet.
Helmet manufacturer, Arai, has launched a brand new RX-7V – a helmet they say ‘represents the summit of Arai’s knowledge, experience and know-how’ – with a heritage going back to 1967.
It features a new PB-SNC² outer shell – a new resin which improves the ‘stick’ between each layer of fibre – which offers a weight saving of around 30g while not sacrificing strength.
Ventilation has been improved, a new top duct gives 11% more airflow and bigger switches make operating easy. The air channel guides air from the eye area to the side ducts – a longer diffuser and larger intake scoops improve stability and a chin cover blocks unwanted air intrusion and draws more air from the mouth area.
The new chin vent offers a dual pivot design, offering options to defog or cool you down. The vent is now also easily removable/replaceable via a single screw accessible from the front.
There’s a new shield system too – VAS (Variable Axis System) – which allows the shield to travel in an arc, allowing a lower and more compact visor mechanism. This allows for easier shield changes and improves the ‘glancing off’ ability – something which the outer shape helmet contributes to as well.
Also as a result of the fresh shape, there is 3mm of extra face and chin room too.
The new shield lock system – borrowed from the F1 helmet – can be operated with gloves on with just one finger and makes removing the shield easier – this lever also has an anti-fog position.
There’s a new ‘Eco Pure’ liner on the washable interior sections, it fastens using a double d-ring device, has a five-year limited warranty and there are a number of different outer shell sizes available to get the right fit.
Each Arai helmet goes through five separate quality-control departments – after the shell is made, after painting and graphic completion, after assembly and two in-process inspections.
