The Moto Guzzi Daytona symbolised the return of the Italian company to the world of competitions, after an interruption of many years. This come-back was made possible thanks to the passion and genius of the famous “Dr. John Wittner”.
His creation is to this day one of the most successful racing bikes born within the glorious tradition of Moto Guzzi. The original piece is on show in the Moto Guzzi museum in Mandello, but there is hardly any workshop in which you couldn’t find its picture.

John Wittner was a passionate American dentist who developed and raced successfully with a prototype from which the Daytona road version was later derived. His intuitions remained an inspiration for enthusiasts and customizers of Moto Guzzi.
Ghezzi-Brian’s path was similar in many ways: its road-bikes are the direct evolution of models originally designed for competitions, where to this day they continue to race successfully – the Supertwin, Furia and the legendary MGS, developed for Moto Guzzi. Later on Moto Guzzi changed its commercial strategies and it is now unlikely that they will again contemplate a new sportsbike in the near future.
Ghezzi-Brian has released details of a kit to transform the Daytona into a modern, muscular sports bike, named after Dr. John.
Ghezzi-Brian’s proposal has the strong personality of a new icon: a front fairing with twin polyellipsoidal lights (a trademark of Ghezzi-Brian), rear led light, digital dashboard, fully adjustable fork and monoshock, warm-sounding exhausts, Ergal foot-rests, racing-type belly-pan, single seat, racing livery. A front fairing without lights is also available for racing use.
The kit can be quickly fixed and removed, should one desire to alternate between Ghezzi-Brian’s “Dr. John’s Tribute” version and Moto Guzzi’s original one.
The mechanics based on the glorious V-Twin, together with the modifications introduced by Ghezzi-Brian, are targeted at great performance and pure fun. It’s claimed to give its best on twists and turns, where the bike requires vigorous arms and confident throttle control. Just the way it used to be in the good old times. And just the way that Dr. John liked.
Daytona is back and it is a true sportsbike, but always faithful to itself and its legend. It is a piece for connoisseurs, for those who like to keep tradition alive but appreciate the latest technology just as well.
