As we all know, British weather is inherently unpredictable. Covering a couple of hundred miles cross-county, chances are you’ll see a range of weather conditions from scorching sunshine to driving sleet, all in the same day. So, a good quality set of textiles are invaluable. Earlier this year, I got my hands on the Wolf Tec-Tour Outlast Textile Jacket and Jeans – and since then, it’s been my go too riding gear, no matter the weather. Ok, so it’s not especially cheap, coming in just a shade under £600 – but it is packed with features and after six months together, I reckon it’s worth every penny. In fact, Wolf maintain it’s the highest specification textile combination it’s ever made. My first impressions of this two-piece textile suit were overwhelmingly positive. It’s good looking gear, designed with the adventure and touring market in mind.

Both the jacket and jeans are made from a DuPont Cordura 300/500 Teflon coated outer lining, have XTR 8000/10000 removable ultra-high performance, waterproof and breathable membranes, and high-specification quilted Outlast full-length linings too. Basically, that means you’ve got three individual layers of protection, with both the thermal and waterproof linings easily removed without compromising safety. Out on the road, it has handled everything that’s been thrown at it with no trouble. It’s kept me bone dry in heavy downpours, toasty in the worst of weathers – and when the weather warmed up, I simply opened up its vents, removed its lining, and away I went.

Regarding crash protection, the jacket comes with an external Wolf TPU Energy Deflection System on the shoulder – plus there’s D30 level 2 CE approved back, shoulder, elbow, hip and knee protection too. It’s got a removable throw coat, waterproof zips, multiple air vents (which work wonders), a water bladder and multiple internal and external pockets, including a rear storage pocket.

In short, if you’re in the market for a new set of textiles, I’d wholeheartedly recommend trying the Wolf Tec-Tour Outlast gear on for size.
