What this clever device does is allow you to navigate your smartphone whilst on your motorcycle which is very handy should you be using your phone’s sat nav function whilst riding.
Set up on the left handlebar with fitments for 22.2mm, 25.3 and even a 38mm grip the Daytona Smartphone Controller is easy to attach and, thanks to a pretty intuitive menu system, is very easy to learn. I was set-up to my phone (Sony Xperia Z3) in seconds.
The system is available for Android (Software version 4.0 and above) and Apple phones (iOS 6 and above) and features a natty set-up where you can quickly get back to sat nav audio instructions should those be overridden with a phone call coming in.
Where the controller really scores is on longer rides where you can set it to read incoming texts, alert you to a call coming in and of course navigate around Sat Nav operations.
The Smartphone Controller has a battery life of approx. 40 hours which uses two SR44 batteries. After using this system for a few weeks I’m sold on the extra element it can bring to long rides, I don’t have to use it but when I want to remain connected without having to stop and check my phone every hour or so then the Daytona bolt-on is a real benefit.
