How would you like a brand new Harley-Davidson, with servicing, insurance, breakdown cover, warranty and road tax all included for just £139.07 a month?
Most manufacturers now offer a Personal Contract Purchase scheme (PCP): You pay a deposit; then typically three years of monthly instalments. After that, you trade the bike in for another, hand it back, or pay a lump sum and keep it.

What makes the Harley-Davidson scheme so competitive is the uncommonly high residual values of their bikes. In fact, a Honda VT750CS Shadow costs £190.47 a month – a whopping £51.40 more than a Harley Iron 883. And Harley-Davidsons’ Gas & Go scheme includes all your biking costs, except fuel! Put another way, it’s the same monthly cost as a £4000 bank loan, which is just about enough to buy you a four-year-old used Ford Fiesta. Hmmm… brand new Harley or a used car?

In the next issue of Motor Cycle Monthly, we’ve sent a dyed-in-the-wool sports bike rider to test-ride three different custom/cruiser bikes… you might be surprised how this Aprilia RSV1000 Mille owner got on. If you’ve thought about buying a Harley, now’s the time to grab a test ride, but if you reckon these bikes aren’t for you, then here’s a challenge – ride over to your nearest Harley-Davidson dealership (you’ll be amazed at how welcoming they are), and bag a test of one of the bikes. We’d love to hear how you get on.
Have you tried a custom/cruiser bike?
