Price paid for the bike: I bought my KTM RC8 for £7250 in August 2010, when only 2 months old and with 690 miles on the clock. I have now done over 33,000 miles on it!
What type of riding do you do: Mainly leisure, every spare minute is spent out on my motorbike, living in the West of Scotland I don’t mind the rain! Only times I don’t go out are if it’s icy or snowing, then I have to do the housework!
Tell us about the engine: Good acceleration but a bit lumpy at slow speeds, it wasn’t built to do 30mph. Very smooth at higher speeds.
What’s the chassis like? Quite rigid and you notice all the bumps in the road.
What’s it like to ride? Lovely! Very comfortable for a sportsbike and have travelled around Britain on it. (My husband goes in the car with the luggage.) Seat is a bit hard though, sitting on a plank of wood springs to mind. In the colder weather, when I have a lot of layers on this doesn’t matter so much as all the layers provide a bit of cushioning.
Give us three good points: Looks amazing, very easy to work on and everything is adjustable ie. bars, footpegs, seat height, so it is easy to get it comfortable for any size or shape of rider.
And three bad ones: In the summer months, heat from the exhaust and engine burns your legs unless you are travelling at high speed but this is a good point in the winter as it keeps you warm. Can’t think of any other bad points, it IS my dream machine!
