It’s been reported that the U.S. Secret Service is in the market for a new Harley-Davidson police motorcycle – despite President Donald Trump’s praise of some H-D owners’ plans to boycott the brand if it shifts production outside of America.

The Secret Service filed a request on a federal business opportunities webpage earlier this week. The filing requests a “Harley Davidson FLHTP Police Motorcycle, Brand Name Only, with Police Equipment Accessories.”

It’s suggested that the Secret Service wants to replace an old motorcycle – but is after a specific Harley-Davidson model to accommodate its side cars, while keeping things straightforward for its support technicians.

Back in August, Trump tweeted: “Many [Harley-Davidson] owners plan to boycott the company if manufacturing moves overseas. Great! Most other companies are coming in our direction, including Harley competitors. A really bad move! U.S. will soon have a level playing field, or better.”

Trumps tweet came a day after The New York Times published a story on some Harley-Davidson motorcycle enthusiasts and their plans to boycott the company – following the Milwaukee based brands plans to move some of its production outside of the U.S. in a move driven by new European Union tariffs.
