Sam Lowes will be looking to match the superb start he made to his Moto2 career in Qatar as he heads to Austin, Texas this weekend for the Red Bull Grand Prix of the Americas.
The rookie arrives in the USA fresh from his sixth place finish at the opening round of the championship in March. Despite some difficulty with tendonitis in his right wrist, Sam impressed the field with a solid performance, which landed him in seventh place. He was subsequently moved up to sixth following a rider disqualification.
This will be the first time the reigning World Supersport Champion has ridden the Texas circuit and the goal remains to secure a strong top-ten finish.
Sam Lowes: “We had a good race in Qatar, of course I wanted to win but was happy with the sixth place. It went better than we had expected being the first race of the season and my first time riding at the circuit. I don’t want to get above my station so early into the season, so I’d be happy with another result like Qatar, this weekend is another new track to learn and a long one, so aiming for a top-ten finish. I’m feeling really positive for this weekend, my wrist is much better and I can’t wait to get back on my bike and ride.”
The Red Bull Grand Prix of the Americas takes place on Sunday 13 April, starting at 1220 Central Standard Time, 1820 British Summer Time.
