Maria Costello MBE heads to Silverstone, the home of British motorsport on Thursday April 10, to host the first of her women only riding skills track days.
Building upon the success of last year’s events, Maria will once more be offering guidance, support and one to one tuition to the women who participate.

The women only event is aimed at riders of all abilities, inviting them to join like-minded women in increasing their bike handling skills and confidence on two wheels under tuition from Costello and her team of expert instructors. What makes the day even more special is that Maria Costello hails from Northampton and has plenty of experience at her local circuit. Maria explained: “Silverstone is my local track, it’s a fantastic facility and Stowe [the circuit being used] is a great coaching circuit. I was blown away by the positive feedback I received from those who participated last year and the improvements made by those who attended. So I’m looking forward to seeing some faces I know and new ones and my aim will be to put a smile on every one.”
Returning participants are clearly a clue to the demand of these events and comments from last year’s track day ladies bear testament to their success. Liz Veitch, a track day novice by her own admission, explained: “I had the most amazing day. Maria and her team were very friendly, encouraging and helpful. I was the most nervous woman out there and nearly pulled out from the event many times. I am so pleased I did it! I can’t stop smiling!! Thanks to all who made it a fab day!”
Similar sentiments were echoed by Sarah Blackburn, who added: “Everything was fabulous! Maria and her team are so informative and great fun, very patient and encouraging. I think everyone improved in their own ways. It takes guts to do something new, but there was no better place to do it.”
Whilst Maria has always been happy to mix it with the men on track, she realises that demand for women only events exists, notably through her Facebook group Woman on a Motorcycle (WOAM), which has in excess of 900 members. “There are female bikers out there looking to enjoy track days where they can increase their confidence on two wheels in a less intimidating environment, alongside other women. I really would love to see more women build more confidence and improve their riding skills and enjoy biking this summer and go on to do more track days. That’s what this event is all about!” added Costello.
