916 designer Massimo Tamburini has passed away

Our thoughts are with the family after hearing that Massimo Tamburini, the man responsible for designing the iconic Ducati 916, has passed away at the age of 70.  Tamburini was diagnosed with lung cancer late in 2013 and had been receiving treatment at an advanced medical centre near his home in San Marino.

Tamburini’s first creation was a totally revised MV Agusta 750 Sport which he made in 1971 using a frame welded by himself.  He then co-founded Bimota, leaving under a cloud and being hired by Claudio Castiglioni (then head of the Cagiva group) where he created the MV Agusta F4 750 and the Ducati Paso before his most famous design, the 916.

His final creations were the MV Agusta F4 Brutale and the F3 675.
